White Sesame & Pork Ramen Noodle Bowl
Recipe: Serves 4
4 packs of instant ramen noodles, (no flavor or veggie packets)
1/2 teaspoon of Red pepper flakes
1/2 of a cabbage, thinly sliced.
1 tablespoon of sesame oil
For the ground pork mixture
1 lb of ground pork
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 teaspoons of fresh grated ginger
2 cloves of chopped Garlic
3 scallions, chopped (white parts only) (Reserve green parts for garnish)
Mix all of the above ingredients and set aside.
Sauce for the pork
1/3 cup mirin
1/4 cup soy
1 tablespoon of white sesame seeds
Mix this together in a bowl and set aside
First stir fry the cabbage in a skillet with the sesame oil and the red pepper flakes until lightly browned. Set it aside on a plate.
Turn up the heat in the same skillet and add in a bit of neutral oil. Add in the seasoned pork spreading it in the skillet. Without disturbing the meat, let it sear for a few minutes on medium high heat. You want it to brown nicely on one side before turning it and breaking up the meat.
While the pork sears get a pot of boiling water on. You want to place the dry noodles in boiling water for at least 2-3 minutes before draining. Separate your noodles into your serving bowls. Place the sautéed cabbage on top of the noodles.
Continue breaking up and browning the pork until it is just about cooked through. Now add in the sauce for the pork and let it simmer for a few minutes. The sauce will thicken and coat the meat.
Place the pork on top of the cabbage and noodles in the individual bowls. Sprinkle some white sesame seeds on top and the green parts of the scallions you reserved earlier. YUM!
